my favorite books
angry candy
harlan ellison

this was one of the first harlan ellison books i ever read. i think it was the second (right after slippage) and i remember being absolutely GOBSMACKED by how good of a book it was, especially for an author i had never heard of before. i think this book is just so perfect, i loved all the stories so much. the only Issue is it was definitely written in 1988 !! the language def reflects it, and some of the words r Very. Not really appropriate but theres also a sort of... not shock factor but a sort of realism that comes with using the language ellison uses in some of the stories (from the top of my head, soft monkeys) and the way he uses it in such a... idk. its just such a good book. my fave story in it is probably 'the region between'. i LOVED that story so much. i remember reading it during lunch in 8th grade and having to turn the book around to read the one twisty part of it. i def looked like an idiot but it was SUCH A GOOD STORY i did Not want to stop reading just bcuz of people. anyways, angry candy is my favorite harlan ellison book. Love it!

i read this book in may of 2023, and it made me cry so much. i read it during erbs (like the little breaks) and i remember crying SO MUCH and like wnating 2 go 2 the bathroom to like. Clean myself up a lil but i DIDNt and it was so EMBARASING but omg totally worth it. amazing book. i love how its written, and how oskar is written, and just everything about the book. i love the little 'writings' in the book that are really just printed on there, i love the pictures and the font changes, i love the way the perspective changes, i love how everything is so different. i really like this book. it might be my favorite of all time. the first time i opened it, i found 3 reciepts. one to a sandwich shop, one to a dry cleaners', and one that was no longer legible. one was from 2003, one from 2008, and the dry cleaning one didnt have a date. i have two copies; one with the original hand (pictured on the left), and one with the movie cover. i would 100% recommend reading this book. sometimes i wonder if those reciepts were in all copies because of how much it fit with my interpretation of the book. i think oskar schell is right about a lot of things. i wish i could read it for the first time again.

this was my absolute FAVORITEEE book when i was a kid and it honestly still is !! the way the writer is like. idk the way it was written was SO SILLY and i learned so much while i was reading it (about topics i would have Never learned about otherwise) and it was just such a fun and easy read ! the other's other books r also pretty silly (the one based off midsummer nights dream or the tempest or whatever with the guy named Clay was cool). and they Also connect with the secret serues which was pretty neat !! i love all the characters in the book and all the ways theyre characterized makes me so happy. theyre jist so interesting and fun and silly !! Big fan. idk i always wanted to have fgriends liek the two of them and Now im realizing i sorta do which is Nice ! the little prince
antoine de saint-exupéry

i LOVE this bok !!!! it also made me cry. i finished reading it in 7th grade music class and i wanted to BAWL. i love everything aqbout it. i love the little illustrations and the way its written. i love how everything is described and i like how its all so like. not matter of fact but like. it kinda felt like a faory tale of some sorts. like it feels like something that disney princesses would have to read before their first day on the job. idk it was such a good book. i feel like this is one of the books that should be a required read in schools. but i would hate to have to analyze it. maybe a required summer reading and then some sort of discussion. but i know the people who wouldnt have read it otherwise wouldnt read it until they knew they Had to, which wouldnt really be ever cuz no graded work. i dont know. if you havent read this, i HIGHLY recommend you should ! if thats the only thing u take away from this site, please read the little prince !!

the alchemist

i have no mouth
and i must scream
harlan ellison

first ever harlan ellison story i read, and my second favorite of his of all time i think. i remember specificallyr eading this in 7th grade spanish because paninai sent me a list of Media they thought id enjoy (and they were RIGHT i enjoy like OVER HALF of what they told me now) and the story was on the list !! so basically i started reading it, finished it, and felt such a. every time i finish certain books that i really really REALLY enjoy, i feel just a total sense of Apathy as i like... basically rearrange my Perception on a lot of stuff ?? idk its pretty cool and this was one of the first times id felt that. other than that, this was basically the story that got me into harlan ellison !! after i read this, at summer camp i found another book by him and decided to read that. it was slippage, and when i got home i bought So many of his books because i could NOT FIND THEM IN ANY LIBRARIES. this is definitely worth being one of his most popular stories, give it a read ! theres a pdf floating online, just look it up :) !!

a day in the life
of ivan denisovich
aleksandr solzhenitsyn

this was a Dad-Recommended book 4 me. we were looking at the Book Closet and he handed it to me and said 'this is a good translation, you should read it'. and so i Did !! i Also remember rereading this in 7th grade spanish LOLOOL and idk why. so im assuming i read it before then but idk it seems Way 2 early in my Brain Timeline haha. but who knows ! plus, the only thing that matters is its a Really Good Book. like i think this should be required reading in any russian lit class, even if just for the amazing job it does at showcasing the environment and mentalities of the people living in soviet era russia and stuff. awesome book. idk if anyone i would meet would agree with me on its Greatness tho. i would 100% recommend reading it anyways though !! just an awesome read and it gives awesome perspective into that time period. its also a pretty short read (it really Is just 1 day in ivan's life LOL) and im P positive theres a pdf of it up online !! take a look if youre interested in any of that stuff !!
